What workers' compensation provides

The Alberta Workers' Compensation Board (WCB-Alberta) is a not-for-profit organization legislated to administer the workers' compensation system for the province. Through the payment of premiums, 137,000 employers fund this no-fault system to provide compensation for workplace injuries and occupational diseases to over 1.7 million workers.

Workers' compensation benefits include:

No fault insurance

Protection is provided for workers and employers regardless of who caused the work injury.

Coverage for non-exempt industries

Most employers and workers are covered by workers’ compensation legislation; however some industries are not required to have this coverage. Review the list of exempt industries.

Risk management

WCB-Alberta provides the only insurance that offers protection from lawsuit for all parties covered by WCB.
