Subject: Financial Administration of Safety Association Grants

Policy

The Board of Directors shall approve initial award grants to new employer safety associations for the purpose of promoting education in accident prevention.  Applications for renewal of grants to safety associations may be approved by the administration.

All safety association grants are funded through special levies on the member employers and form part of the comprehensive budget approved by the Board of Directors.

This consolidated policy is effective June 1, 1998, except when noted otherwise in specific policy sections.

Interpretation

1.0 Safety Associations

A safety association is an association of employers whose primary objective and purpose is the promotion of education in accident prevention in the industry or industries in which the member employers are engaged.  The members of the association must be employers in an industry to which the Act applies. 

2.0 Special Levies

All amounts awarded are recovered from the industries participating in the safety association through a levy on the premium rates of those industries in the same year they are disbursed.  All revenues from the levies are deposited directly to, and all grants are disbursed directly from the Accident Fund.
