Physicians who report injuries through WCB-accredited medical software vendors will now have the opportunity to attach electronic files to the Physician’s First Report of Injury (form C-050) and the Medical Care Invoice (form C-568).
While WCB’s system now allows this functionality, the individual medical software vendor will need to modify their software in order to offer this functionality to their physician customers. Attachments to the electronic C-050 will enable physicians to send forms that are not currently offered through electronic injury reporting – such as forms used by Occupational Injury Service (OIS) clinics.
Attachments to the electronic C-568 should most often be a consultation report or surgical report. Physicians can, however, attach any material they deem relevant to the claim.
This enhancement follows a similar improvement made last year when WCB first allowed file attachments to the online C-050 and C-568 through WCB’s website.
Currently, many physicians submit a report or invoice through electronic reporting and denote that additional reports will follow through fax or mail. With this attachment capability now offered both online and through medical software vendors, separate submissions will no longer be necessary and physicians are encouraged to use this single submission process. Adding information as a file attachment, instead of submitting it separately, also means reports will be processed faster.
In order for physicians to take advantage of the conveniences of electronic injury reporting, they must be signed up.
