Responsibilities

It is critical that workers, employers and health care providers work together to ensure a safe return to work. WCB-Alberta works in partnership with physical therapists, chiropractors, general practitioners, specialists, surgeons and many other health care providers committed to the timely and appropriate treatment of injured workers.

Health care provider responsibilities

  1. Provide timely and appropriate care.
  2. Report the injury and treatment online to WCB-Alberta within 48 hours of treatment.
  3. Keep the injured worker informed and educate him or her about his or her role in recovery.
  4. Maintain regular contact with WCB-Alberta to update us on the worker’s progress and to assist with return-to-work planning.

Injured worker responsibilities

  1. Maintain ongoing communication with WCB-Alberta.
  2. Keep the employer informed on his or her progress to help plan for return to work.
  3. Follow the advice of health care providers and discuss his or her ability to perform modified work with the employer and health care providers.

WCB-Alberta responsibilities

  1. To fairly apply the Workers' Compensation Act.
  2. To minimize the impact of workplace injury or illness by helping workers return to work.
  3. To provide clear and timely decisions about each case so our clients always know what is happening and why.
