In 1938, WCB-Alberta signed a contract with the province to provide physical therapy treatments for injured workers. These therapies involved using the healing powers of hot mineral waters through the Mineral Springs Hospital in Banff, Alberta.
Based on the impressive treatment injured workers received at the Mineral Springs Hospital, WCB-Alberta decided to invest in its own rehabilitation centre in Edmonton. When Millard Health opened in 1952, it was the first facility in Canada designed exclusively for the rehabilitation of injured workers. Millard has continued to lead the way in increasing successful outcomes for clients through innovative programs designed to serve injured workers and employers.
| 1990 | Millard Health is the first facility in Canada to achieve international accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) for excellence in occupational rehabilitation programming. |
| 2002 | A new state-of-the art Millard Health Centre is opened in Edmonton. The new building is conveniently located next to hotels, a shopping centre and provides access to major transportation and transit routes. |
| First Edmonton based Occupational Injury Service (OIS) Clinic opens at Millard Health. The program provides injured workers with excellent medical care at the time of injury and gives employers timely, work-readiness information. | |
| 2009 | The Traumatic Psychological Injury (TPI) Program was introduced to treat clients who have been psychologically impacted by severe work related incidents. The TPI program helps injured workers deal with their reactions to an incident with the goal of full recovery, as quickly as possible. |
| Ongoing | Millard Health has a long history of healthcare research and development that has included the introduction of innovative services, as well as the development of evident-based disability management tools. Millard Health continues to introduce new products to address service needs and to better serve workers and employers. |
