Safety Associations

Safety associations represent the interests of employers, and work to promote workplace safety through education and other initiatives. If designated as a Certifying Partner, an association can also assess employers’ health and safety programs and issue Certificates of Recognition in conjunction with Alberta Employment and Immigration.

Industries help fund safety associations through premium rates. The decision to fund a safety association is made by the industry – the majority of the employers (as measured by insurable earnings) must vote in favour of a funded association. The funds are collected by WCB-Alberta and distributed to the association in quarterly installments.
